The work

Guanyin Figure

Sancai-glazed porcelain figure

Received in more than a dozen pieces — the head, a hand and the flowing robes all shattered. Every fragment was cleaned, reassembled and keyed together, the missing areas filled and retouched so the figure stands serenely whole again.

The Elder Sister

19th-century oil painting

Decades of oxidised varnish had yellowed across the surface, muddying the whites and imparting an orange tint over the whole picture. The discoloured varnish was carefully removed and the painting revarnished — bringing back its clarity, depth and true colour.

Swan Lamp Base

Blue-and-white porcelain lamp base

The decorative swan-neck handle had snapped off in multiple fragments. The break was rejoined, the missing form remodelled, and the glaze matched so the swan curves gracefully from the body once more.

Family Hymnal

Antique hymn book

A well-loved hymnal that had lost its cover altogether, with many pages badly damaged and the binding no longer holding. The torn leaves were repaired, the text block resewn, and an entirely new cover made — ready for another century of Sundays.

Jasperware Plate

Green jasperware, oak-leaf border

A sage-green jasperware plate snapped cleanly in two and held together with old tape. The tape and adhesive residue were removed, the halves rejoined and the join disguised so the sprigged oak-leaf border runs unbroken.

Perfume-Amphora Lid

Glazed ceramic lid

Broken into several shards and previously glued with an adhesive that had yellowed to a dark brown with age. The old repair was taken apart, every shard cleaned, then re-adhered and restored to a clean, even white.

Bone-China Teapot

Floral bone china, gilded

A delicate floral teapot that arrived with a break to the tip of its spout. The missing piece was rebuilt and the gilded rim redrawn, so the spout appears as though it had never been touched.

Bisque Baby Doll

Composition doll, cloth gown

Both of the baby’s feet had broken off and gone missing. New feet were sculpted and hand-painted to match her original complexion.
