What I conserve & restore

A single studio, many materials. Each object is assessed on its own terms — below is a sense of the work within each discipline.

  • Ceramics & Glass
    01

    Ceramics & Glass

    Porcelain, earthenware, stoneware and glass.

From the near-invisible mending of a treasured teapot to the structural reassembly of archaeological fragments — bonding, filling, and colour-matched retouching that respects the original surface.

  • Works on Paper & Books
    02

    Works on Paper & Books

Documents, prints, drawings, watercolours, photographs and bound books.

Surface cleaning, tear repair, removal of old tape and adhesives, tape-stain reduction, flattening and de-acidification to stabilise foxing and discolouration. For bound volumes, this extends to repairing damaged pages, resewing failed bindings and making new covers — returning legibility and life to fragile paper.

  • Paintings & Works of Art
    03

    Paintings & Works of Art

Easel paintings and mixed-media works of art.

Consolidation of flaking paint, surface cleaning, reduction of discoloured or oxidised varnish, and the filling and inpainting of losses — carried out with reversible, conservation-grade materials.

  • Stone
    04

    Stone

Sculpture, marble, alabaster and architectural masonry.

Cleaning, desalination, structural pinning and the repair of chips and losses in stone objects and carved detail — from mantel pieces and statuary to memorial stone.

  • The Built Environment
    05

    The Built Environment

Heritage buildings, plaster and architectural features.

On-site conservation of architectural surfaces and features — lime plaster, decorative mouldings, and historic finishes — working within heritage guidelines and alongside your builders.

  • Multi-media & Composite Objects
    06

    Multi-media & Composite Objects

Sentimental pieces that combine several materials.

Many treasured objects are made of many things at once — wood, textile, metal, paper and paint. Each is assessed as a whole so that treatment of one element never endangers another.

Not sure where your piece fits?

Many treasured objects are more than one thing at once.

If your piece combines materials — or you simply aren’t sure — send a few photographs and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how it can be helped.
